How a capture works
- Equality. End your move beside an enemy of equal value, and it falls.
- Sum. Stand two of your pieces on opposite sides of an enemy, adding up to its value, and it falls.
- Eruption. Line up on an enemy with empty squares between you. If your value times the number of empty squares is its value, it falls from a distance.
Why one board a day?
Everyone plays the same board on the same day. When you finish, share your result: it shows how you captured, never where, so it spoils nothing. Tomorrow there is a new board.
Is there more than the daily battle?
Yes. Machia has two modes so far. The daily battle is the one board everyone plays each day. Endless is wave after wave, each one a battle to clear, with no clock and no move limit. A run ends when you run out of retries.
Where does it come from?
Rithmomachia was the game European scholars played for five centuries alongside chess. Its pieces carried numbers and captured by arithmetic. Machia revives it as one battle a day. Read the history
